Storyline
Plot Summary:
A young woman, her uptight step sister and her best friend use their savings for a long anticipated dream trip to Paris, which turns out to be a big disappointment. When they decide to take a break from their lousy tour and duck into the lobby of a luxury hotel, one of them is mistaken for a spoiled British heiress. Before they get the chance to reveal their true identities they are wrapped up in misadventures during a vacation to Monte Carlo instead.

A horrible film
I suppose that many people will excuse the extremely low level ofquality from Monte Carlo saying stuff such as "What did you expect?It's just a light comedy made for girls". I have two answers to thatpoint of view: 1) There are some movies "for girls", such as St.Trinian's and Mean Girls, which were funny, interesting and veryentertaining, because they had solid screenplays, competentperformances and good direction. And number 2) That kind of excuse isonly useful to insult the target audience of the film, because ittacitly suggests a level of ignorance in the girls which will avoidthem to recognize the low quality of a film made for them. So, insummary: crap is crap regardless of the target audience it was madefor.The screenplay from Monte Carlo is absolutely hollow and improbable,something which exacerbates the fact that it is totally unfunny andlacking of any ingenuity. Unfortunately, co-screenwriters ThomasBezucha (who was also the director), April Blair and Maria Maggentitook the easy route, building the story on the cheap structure of a TVsitcom, free of any creativity, surprises and narrative integrity.As for the performances, Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy tried to dotheir best, but their poorly written characters did not bring them toomuch to do. Selena Gómez feels listless and not credible at all, at thesame time she shows an absolute lack of charisma. In conclusion, Icannot recommend Monte Carlo because it is a horrible film which boredme to tears.

I only watched it because my flight was 12 hours long and I already watched all the other movieson my other flights.what a cheesy story, what a stupid plot, I like chick flicks from time to time, but this was sooo bad.The boyfriend (Owen) following the girl - taken directly from "Only you", and all the other tricks taken from other, better movies.The characters were one-dimensional, the movie felt almost like a cartoon.The girls were pretty, and costumes and sets glamorous, but this is no reason to spend almost 2 hours watching garbage of a movie.

Honestly, not what i was expecting
I went to go see Monte Carlo with My Cousin. I had really high doubtsof this movie, being similar to "The Lizzie McGuire Movie". I enteredthe theatre with high expectations. Honestly, i was shocked. It wascute, silly fun. This is a perfect movie for B.F.F's. Selena Gomezplayed an amazing dual role as Grace/Cordelia. Katie Cassidy played therole of Grace's Best friend, she was made for the role. LeightonMeester was cute as Meg, the adorable step-sister Grace didn't want.but realized they are sisters at heart. I absolutely loved it. Comeswith My Highest Recommendation. Run to the theatre to go see thismovie. You will not be disappointed.
A sweet and romantic film that, nevertheless, lacks sufficient energy and comedy; girls, however, will enjoy it
Grace (Selena Gomez) lives in Texas, works in a diner, and has justearned her high school diploma. Since receiving a snow globe of Pariswhen she was young, Grace has been saving money to go on a weeklongvacation to France. Now that graduation is over, she and her closefriend, Emma (Katie Cassidy) have the tickets and plan to take off.But, wait. Grace's parents (Brett Cullen and Andie McDowell), newlymarried, decide that older stepsister, Meg (Leighton Meister) must goalong to keep everyone safe. Neither Grace or Meg is happy with thisarrangement but decide it will be preferable to no trip at all. Once inParis, the tour and the hotel are far short of expectations for all ofthe girls, causing disappointment. But, the trio of gals has a chanceeavesdrop with a young British aristocrat, Cordelia (also Selena Gomez)that changes their vacation. Grace discovers that Cordelia is breakingcommitments she made for a fund raising in Monte Carlo and goingundercover for a few days. Thus, an opportunity arises for Grace tostep into Cordelia's shoes, for they resemble identical twins. Oncelanding in Monaco, the girls are treated like royalty, with fabuloushotel accommodations and a closet full of designer clothes. Holding herbreath, Grace finds that no one suspects that she is an impostor, noteven the handsome son of the charity's director. He serves as her guideand "date". Emma, too, finds herself the object of affection for thelocal guys, although she is practically engaged to her boyfriend, Owen,back in Texas. Finally, reserved Meg also comes out of her shell whenshe meets a dashing Australian tourist. Thus, for a few days, it is aslice of "royal heaven" for the vacationers. But, will the deception bediscovered and what will be the consequences if it is? This is a lovelylooking film with a beautiful, talented young star, Gomez. A naturalperformer with a sweet-and-saucy air, she makes the most of her duelroles. Cassidy, Meister, and all of the other cast members do nicework, too. Naturally, the costumes and sets are quite lovely. But, andits huge issue, the script doesn't contain nearly enough comedy orcleverness to sustain a complete film. The premise, yes, is good butthe execution is lacking. Then, too, the direction doesn't help matterswith its complete dirth of energy. Therefore, the film plods along andhas some boring moments. Thankfully, the finale makes a splash but itsalmost too late. Girls, young and old, will like the film and patientlyoverlook the dull bits. But, any others forced to watch it will bescowling up a storm.
Typical teen movie
As the summary suggests this is indeed a typical coming of age teenmovie with appropriate characters and a good cast. That the movie isset in Paris and Monte Carlo is refreshingly new. Also the plot isslightly different from movies of this genre that it is safe to saythat the movie is definitely worth watching. Some supposedlycoincidental events which occur in the movie will possibly occur onlyin a movie. But i'm not actually complaining about that. The first halfhour or so is definitely slow. If you know the story of the movie or ifyou are one of those persons who read the synopsis of the movie beforedeciding to watch it then the first half hour or so definitely leavesyou waiting for that moment to happen. But then once the stage is setand everything it definitely moves fast. many parts of the movie arefunny and some attempted humor are just cliché. Selena Gomez has doneher part well and its not surprising. It would be interesting to seeher more in the future as an actress. Overall I wouldn't say no toperson who wants to watch this movie.
Better than expected :)
I almost didn't watch the movie because I saw the reviews of othershere on IMDb. In the end I decided to try it anyway and was pleasantlysurprised. Sure, the story has been done before, and in the end it maynot be the most realistic, but that's not why you should want to watchthis movie anyway. It's a happy, feel-good movie about following yourdreams that, when you finish watching it, leaves you with a smile onyour face. I recommend this to anyone with a bit of extra time who justwants to watch a relaxing, cheerful movie like me (a 21 year old girlXD) or for anyone who wants a nice, clean movie to watch for or withtheir children. this is the best movie that Selena Gomez has been in yet. Playing two parts and doing it very well she can only move foward and do better from here on out good job Selena
very entertaining
i found this film to be entertaining and funny . i went to see it withthe least expectations .selena Gomez is a good actress and she broughtback the times when we used to admire teen actresses and take themseriously . actresses like Christina Ricci and Brooke shields when theywere teens . there are few deep messages in the film . about honesty ,money . love and friendship .also i would like to say that thecinematography was wonderful and it was a big publicity for MonteCarlo,the movie was full of absurd situations like some culturaldifference, funny moments in France and how some hotels aren't up tostandards there when they are being advertised in the best way possible. . but the way it develops the story is admiring. all in all irecommend this film for anyone anytime . it is a feel good funnyromantic flick .
Silly, and pretty but not as much fun as other similar outings
Unlike some IMDb reviewers I can watch a movie and understand whatdemographic it is for and enjoy it for that demographic and review itfairly. Obviously Monte Carlo was not written for my demographic butthere has been plenty of "Disney" type pre-teen "Chick flicks" that Ihave thoroughly enjoyed for what they are. Monte Carlo doesn't reallyfit that bill very well. The movie has a decent, well liked, andpopular lead cast, lovely European locations, a funny comedic plot butnone of it really takes off. I would have liked to have seen moreslapstick laugh out moments and better chemistry with the cast wouldhave made this far better than what it was. I think I expected the filmto fit the demographic of pre-teen...12-14 year olds but instead, atbest, this is made for 10-12 year olds.Selena Gomez plays her dual roles in the film as down to earth likableGrace, and the uppity, snotty, entitled Cordelia. She actually does asolid job in both roles but she is one of the people I expected morelaughs from and that never really happens. Katie Cassidy plays Grace'sbest friend. I thought she sort of didn't fit in the cast very well. Ilike Cassidy in certain roles but this one just didn't fit her and shedidn't have great chemistry with Gomez. Leighton Meester is okay asGomez's step-sister. Meester is a great actress but I don't think hercharacter has much depth and she comes across as very unlikable for themost part. The supporting cast including Andie MacDowell and CoryMonteith are okay in their roles but far from noticeable or stand outin their performances. Even the romantic story lines are rather weakbecause the male romantic leads are completely forgettable.I would imagine that young girls will still get a kick out of the filmbut it could have been a whole lot more given the positive aspects ofthe film. I would say that the film's lack of impression was due toco-writer and director Thomas Bezucha lack of experience but he did anexcellent job on his previous film "The Family Stone" but I still thinkthis wasn't necessarily the right project for him because I think thescript lacked real depth and the execution of the film lacked punch.While there are some fun moments and some amusing laughs, overall thisone is definitely avoidable. There are just too many better films forthe same demographic. 6/10

an okay movie
this movie was okay. it had a great cast and everything. it just did not have that much comedy in it. i like romantic films but when it is a romantic comedy i want more comedy in it. but everythin else was okay i suposse you could say it was to much of a chick flick for me. if you have not seen this movie then i recommend you do.
A very cute movie
When I received the Monte Carlo DVD, my little girl got so excited. It didn't take her long before she went straight to her room to watch the movie. Of course, I didn't get to watch the movie the first time around, so I watched it the 2nd time in the living room with my little girl. This movie is great for young girls and tween's. To be honest even at my age I found it be a really cute movie. The movie has tons of great music that makes you want to dance and sing along with it. My little girl couldn't help but get up and dance when the music started playing.This movie also teaches young girls self confidence with is really important for our girls that are growing up nowadays. Since, my little girl was already a fan of Selena Gomez, I knew she would love the movie, and she did. This movie will give you and young girls tons of laughs, and a great movie to watch together. Another thing this movie is really clean so letting my young daughter watch this was not a worry at all.
harmless entertainment
A young woman takes her dream vacation to Paris with her best friend and her step-sister. The trip doesn't go as planned, and then she is mistaken for a wealthy heiress. The three go on to connect with hunky guys and vacation in luxury. In the end, they may learn something about themselves. This is a harmless film that just about anyone can enjoy. It is predictable, and does not contain any great dramatic moments, but it has an attractive young cast and the movie's target audience of teenage girls will find it entertaining. I would recommend this one if you are in the mood for some lighthearted entertainment.

It's a bad joke
I am from Romania and I don't like the fact that my country is taken asa bad joke by the director.In the movie he says that Romania needssupport to make schools.Why didn't he come to Romania to shoot themovie,he goes instead to Hungary,Budapest and show pictures from therewith the name of Romania.Shame on you.That's why you American's needRomanians to keep the NASA server clean because we are smart enough tohack it.HAHA read on it and document it.That why Colombia Pictures cameto Romania to see a young student who hacked their site and downloadeda movie that should appeared only the next year.What you do in collegewe do in high school so don't make fun of us.By the way the movie isdisappointing.How stupid can you be to not know a person?Only inAmerica you can do this.

All my children love this movie (ages 7 to 15). It is fun and clean, a great add to our movie library.
